University of Houston Cougar Dolls Dance Team

Amber & I have been on the University of Houston Dance team for 3 years. Thanks to COVID-19, our season ended early with no trips for March Madness (our favorite part of the year). Like we stated before, we both went to a different college our first year. Then we decided to continue our education at the heart of Houston. In this post, we will talk about our greatest lessons learned, achievements, regrets, memories, & advice for future collegiate dancers!

Being on a team with 25 girls can seem stressful and competitive for a lot

of people. Yet this team is different. We look after each other, push each other to succeed, and really care for one another. What we think is so special about this team is how diverse it is. Different cultures, backgrounds, personalities, sizes, and height. This is beautiful because it not only taught us how to interact with these women but truly appreciate the diversity.

Not only did this team push us mentally, but PHYSICALLY. If you would've saw us when we first tried out versus how we look today. Y'all would be shook... The first three months for the past three years, we start every practice with a 5 in 10 (run around TDECU stadium 5 times in 10 minutes). Amber & I could agree that this was rough but we did it because we were surrounded by women that refused to give up. We started seeing progress in our bodies, and we feel so healthy! The saying "beauty is pain" was really felt during that, but we definitely don't regret it.

As for both of us, I think that we can agree that our lives forever changed when we became Cougar Dolls, after all, that's how we met!

Being a Doll was great don't get me wrong, but there was some bumps in the journey too. There was hardly EVER any drama which is amazing considering how many girls we had! But personally speaking, I found the girls who were indefinitely in my corner! Emmi & I created bonds with people who we will never ever forget. Through all obstacles, we truly learned what perseverance meant. As Emmi mentioned, our season was cut short, and we both were a bit sad. There was no better feeling then strutting into the football stadium with our boots on, or running out to crush our timeout routine on the court. Those moments we will never get back, but we are SO glad that we got to experience them in the first place.

If you are wanting to try out for a dance team or accomplish something out of your comfort zone... we say DO IT. These may be the best memories you create, so why not go for it?

We promise you will learn more about our Cougar Doll journey and the girls that made it memorable! But for now, we are so happy that we get to share it with you!
